Cebu Young Leaders Gear Up to Build Resilient Communities

Driven by their passion to build and sustain resilient communities, 165 Cebuano youth gather for the RAFI Center for Leaders’ (CFL) second session of AYCEstorya: Conversations for Change.

The session which was themed “Building Resilient Communities: Youth as Active Contributors to Disaster Preparedness and Environmental Governance” in celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month, was graced by two esteemed resource speakers, Ma. Lourdes “Joy” Martinez-Onozawa, Principal Architect of MLMO Architecture & Planning, and Baltazar Tribunalo, Owner of the Spiritual & Reconciliation Center.

Aside from the opportunity to interact with the speakers, the participants, or ka-AYCEstoryas as we call them, were also able to have meaningful conversations with fellow youth on what they needed to unlearn, relearn, and learn from the session, as well as plan how they would apply their learnings when they return to their respective communities.

“I learned from the speakers that success is not measured solely by achievements but by the strength of character, the ability to adapt, and the courage to embrace change. It was a poignant reminder that in the face of adversity, we possess the power to shape our destinies and create positive change in the world,” shared Robert Cabilin Jr. from Cebu Technological University – Main Campus.

The next session of AYCEstorya is set to happen in August 2023.
